Yes I know it is salty but again a small amount goes a long way in flavouring your dishes. There are many brands out there, some contain wheat, sugar and other additives to give the flavour, They also vary a lot in salt content. So watch out and read the labels. Thai fish sauces have a higher salt content than Vietnamese and I think that because of the higher salt the flavour is lost in the saltiness.
I use Du Son, it is pure and has lower sodium than other brands that I have found. It also tastes great.
